I have always been fascinated by the beautiful losers, the exquisite outsiders. They spurred me to create Desillusion more than 20 years ago in order to document the lifestyle of a generation misunderstood. But as I’ve grown, I’ve continued to discover how this attraction has permeated all aspects of my life.
Especially how it has driven my fascination with the unspectacular moment.
All the “in between” scenes, the poetry that the world naturally writes, all these lost moments that our entertainment-first society overlooks. For years, I have strived to capture them. A practice that helps balance out my melancholia, providing a reason to believe in humanity. A reason to hope, and mostly, a means for translating my everyday life into poetry.
So, in 2020, this year of Populist politics, Pandemic, and social injustice, my quest accelerates. It comes from a need to find the poetic in every corner of my “confined” world. I can no longer escape and leave it all behind me, I have had to embrace the Here and Now.
This book is titled “My Life on Film”.
256 pages of moments between January 5th and November 7th captured on analogue film.
A medley of instants and persons that, for the most part, were not supposed to be seen, much less printed.
A simultaneous ode to nothing, and everything.
A self-portrait of who I really am.
